Since it’s launch in 2016, TikTok has become a huge success, with over 2 billion downloads and over 800 million monthly users. Although it was popular before the pandemic, there’s no doubt that it’s been supercharged by people staying at home.

Because the platform focuses on short videos, many content creators have started using it to promote their YouTube channels and videos, but is there a way that you can use TikTok to promote your blog posts?

What Goes Viral?

Many different types of videos go viral on TikTok, and here are some of the most popular with TikTok users.

Challenges

Challenges like the Ice Bucket Challenge definitely have a habit of going viral, there’s always plenty to choose from like the Flip The Switch challenge and many more.

Dance videos

Also very popular among TikTok creators are dance videos, so if you have any dancing talent then why not give it a go?

Lip-sync

Many Lip-syncing TikTok videos have gone viral, one that often comes to mind is “M to the B” a song by UK artist Millie B that was used by Bella Poarch.

Cute animal videos

There’s no doubt about it: animals are cute! Cute animal videos are popular everywhere and TikTok is no exception.

What Is Our Strategy?

When it comes to promoting your blog on TikTok, there is a particular path that I recommend you follow.

Setting up your account

  1. When you set up a TikTok account for your blog, you’ll want to switch it to a Business Account. If haven’t got an account here’s a step-by-step guide. Once you have created your account, head over to Settings and Privacy > Manage account > Switch to Business Account. This will allow you to access a bunch of additional analytics that you are unavailable to personal accounts.
  2. Write your bio. Let people know about your blog or yourself as a person if you have a personal blog.
  3. Add those links. Thanks to your business account, you can now add links to your blog, your Instagram, and YouTube accounts.

Start growing your audience

Now that your account is up and running, it’s time to start getting some followers.

  1. Start by asking everybody you know to follow you (within reason), not only is it a nice little boost to your follower count but it’ll make your account more credible.
  2. Start making videos. It’s now time to start doing those challenges, filming your pets, and pretending to be Beyonce. You need to start growing an audience before promoting your blog to them, and there’s a reason TikTok has 800 million users: it’s fun!
  3. Don’t forget to engage with the community, try leaving comments on people’s videos, and, in the beginning, always respond to comments left on your videos.

Mention your blog

Now that you’ve got a bit of an audience, you can start mentioning your blog posts in videos.

You can either mention it at the end of your videos, asking people to go to the link on your account’s page, or you can take a video of your blog post, explaining it and telling people to go to your blog so they can read the rest!

What Not to Do

Let’s not forget that with all social media, there are things you should avoid doing on TikTok:

  • Don’t spam your blog. Try not to make all your videos about your blog, mix it up with some content and challenges that I mentioned above.
  • Don’t give up easily. All it takes is for one video to go viral and you're golden, but that doesn’t mean that the first video your upload is going to. You need to be consistent, try, and upload one video every day. Unless you're doing some complicated challenges, then it shouldn’t take you more than 15–20 minutes.

Bottom Line

TikTok is really popular at the moment, so you should definitely consider giving it a go. You’ll undoubtedly not get much traffic in the beginning, but you should definitely consider including it in your social media marketing strategy.
